Niban Japanese Restaurant

This is one of our regular restaurants, mainly because we have made it a sort of tradition to come by after seeing our dentist/friend-of-the-family. You order first, then find a seat. Varied menu of lots of tasty foods, daily specials, and a good selection of beverages. Most of my family enjoys the many choices of sushi rolls as there are a lot to choose from. Friendly staff, quick service, all at a reasonable price.

Theyre good place for the quick lunch! :)The food pic i took was their lunch special & special of the mth, which cost only 20$ altogether. They do different specials time to time so i find new things everytime i visit them. Their store is bit too small for big groups so i always order for to-go 😅

Consistency is what I think of, when I think of the food in this restaurant. That's why I have been coming here, when I'm in town, over 20 years. A variety of Japanese style foods like ramen, sushi, & bento box meals are on the menu. Drinks include sake, beer & soft drinks with refills. Prices are fair for the quality & quantity of food you get.

Absolutely hands down the best sushi. service and atmosphere. Happy hour 7.00 large hot saki and large Kirin is stellar! Miso soup is the bomb!

The staff here are really nice and friendly. Food is good and inexpensive. Love that there is plenty of parking.

First visit to Niban, very skeptical of the sushi. Second visit, I enjoyed myself. The third and each subsequent visit thereafter, I was in heaven. It's a feast for your taste buds. Every mouthful is culinary bliss... I like the friendly hostesses at the front, the servers are quick with the drink orders, and prompt with the sushi. Sure at times I've had to wait when they are really busy. But other than that, service is great. The portion size is perfect, and for those of you that know me, you know I love to eat. Also, you can't beat the price for the value you get. When I crave sushi....Niban is the place to be. :o)

Good food for the price.

Great little place. Good food. Good prices. Not chic or trendy. But nonetheless very popular. Sometimes crowded. But they manage to move everyone along. You order at the counter and then wait your turn to take a seat (mostly booths). Somehow seating magically opens up when your food is ready. I'm especially wild about the Ginger Salmon, but I've liked everything I've ever ordered. I thoroughly recommend you give this place a shot. .

Great food, had good flavor and fish was fresh. Great prices for sushi, friendly staff and attentive. Good parking as well. Its a order your food at counter first, go sit and employee brings your food kind of place. Overall really good!

This is a popular place to eat with our family throughout the years. Items like the fried seafood mix, chicken katsu curry plate, and orange blossom roll are typical meals we like to order. The place can get busy at times, but the wait times aren't bad, and there is additional outside seating if it gets crowded inside. Service is typically good where the good servers come out and check if everything is alright or refill our drinks, but we've seen it go down recently where no one came around to check on us (we had to ask a couple of times for refills, get up and get a to-go box, etc.). It's as if the servers didn't want to make eye contact and avoid our table. If they improved their service just a little, then we'd always make a point to come back. For now, it's just a consideration to go to if we're in the area.

I've been coming here since I was a little kid, maybe 20-25 years. It is great! The quality has been 100% consistent and you can get a good, inexpensive meal. I like the calamari appetizer and bento boxes, and lunch specials.

Always great specias. Sushi is fresh and delish. The best crunchy roll there is.

Best sushi in SD... ask for the piranha, is a little expensive, but is goooood.

This place is just okay. It's a little different...you order at the counter and then they bring you the food and drinks and refill everything... The menu has a variety of items, from sushi to bentos to noodles. The service was a litte slow, and I was there when it opened for dinner. I waited about 20 minutes for the food.I ordered the vegetarian delight, which has tempura, sushi, a salad, rice, edamame. For the price, it's a good portion and a well sized meal. However, it wasn't the best, just average. The only thing that I would comment on is the brown rice, it was pretty much mushy and too soft.

While the decor felt a little cheap and a bit worn and outdated, the food more than made up for it. I got the chicken katsu curry which was absolutely delicious. The vegetables had the perfect texture and the curry had a very traditional taste. The chicken katsu was cooked really well and overall really shocked at the cheap prices here. The counter serve style is great and food came out extremely quickly.

Amazing food!! If you seat at the sushi bar Marco will make your fresh rolls! It's the best sushi maker hahaha

Ordered sashimi plate all fish. Sashimi was fresh and melted in my mouth. Service was excellent and very attentive to our needs. Priced right in a no frills restaurant.

Awesome tasting food. Had a lunch special with 3 piece seafood, fried gyoza dumplings and California rolls. Food quality was very good and the atmosphere is nice

Their sushi is awesome. I have been going there over 18 yrs. The prices are very reasonable for what you order. The sushi rolls have the perfect amount of rice. I've been to sushi restaurants were you pay exorbitant prices and you get mostly rice very little items in them. I hate that. If I'm going to pay for a special role I don't want rice I want ingredients that they say will be in the items. Go here if you want awesome sushi. I live in Escondido California and travel down to San Diego so I can have the sushi I love!

This is our favorite family-oriented sushi and bento eatery. Have been going to Ichiban and Niban for almost three decades now. Very dependable, with excellent food always.

I love this place for sushi and hot tea. There is usually a wait and parking can be difficult. But the fresh sushi and fair prices is worth the hassle.

Great food and good customer service. My 1st time there I ordered Chicken Teriyaki Bento box. It was delicious. Only difference from other restaurants is you order and pay and then find a table and they bring you your food.
